New shaping rules for Malayalam fonts

KV Rajeesh has written a blog article about a new set of OpenType shaping rules for Malayalam script (see the link above). He describes in detail the research and development of completely new OpenType layout rules for Malayalam traditional orthography. The new efforts follow the directives envisaged by Chitrajakumar of Rachana Aksharavedi on definitive character set for Malayalam so that the shaping rule eliminates the possibility of invalid characters. The article will be of special interest to all those working on language technologies.
