In 2020 Rajeesh of Rachana Institute of Typography (RIT) tried to add functionality to FontForge to be able to use RIT's Malayalam shaping rules without modification in all our fonts. For e.g., it was not possible to use Rachana's shaping rules in Ezhuthu, as the latter had limited characters (950 glyphs vs 740 glyphs, approx).
It took a while, but that change is now incorporated in FontForge's main source code. Now we can use just a single shaping rule without modifications in all our fonts!
